Mellissa Scott
Mellissa Scott was born in California and raised in Charleston. She began dancing at the age of 17 when she joined the Orchesis Contemporary Dance Theatre in Tallahassee while attending Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. After returning to Charleston, Mellissa went on to dance with the West African Dance Company, Adande, and later joined Buen Aché in 2008.
Mellissa’s diverse dance experience, coupled with innate dance ability, has made her one Buen Aché’s principal dancers. She is also choreographer of several performance pieces.
Mellissa also dances with Charleston-based West African dance company Wose of Charleston, and works with young people at Wose’s Saturday School of the Arts. Mellissa is able to offer a unique artistic experience to children and helps them discover their abilities and hidden talents.
Mellissa serves as Community Outreach Coordinator for Buen Aché.
